Meet the Team

  • Ana Zigic

“A few years ago I couldn’t even imagine rowing an ocean once, let alone doing it twice.

I’ve always loved sport and rowing in particular, but I never considered myself an ‘athlete.’ I let comparison be the thief of my joy and felt held back by chronic health issues that took a long time to diagnose. I’m happy to say that I proved myself wrong on my last row.

Without sport, I wouldn’t be who I am and wouldn’t know the rest of my wonderful crew – including my husband!

Sport has the power to change lives, and I want to showcase that sport, and the benefits it provides, is for everyone.”

  • Matt Christie

"I'm joining the crew as the most experienced and least prepared for this challenge. I bring a wealth of international rowing experience to the team and have rowed in what seems like the majority of the clubs on the Thames. I'm excited to put my flat water rowing skills to the test on the ocean!

I learned to row at the Ottawa Rowing Club and raced for Canada at the U23 World Championships. I've also raced for Queen's, Western, and Edinburgh University and won Henley with Molesey Boat Club in 2019. I've now found my forever home at Thames Rowing Club.

Watching my wife Ana compete in the race back in 2023/24 set a fire in me and I can’t wait to take on the challenge together! I massively appreciate what rowing has done for me and I’m grateful for a chance to use it to do some good!”

  • Antonia Rough

“I was a sporty kid, but in my teenage years, I lost that passion. It wasn’t until friends encouraged me to join my university rowing team—where I met Ana—that I rediscovered my love for sport and adventure. Since then, I’ve been constantly seeking new challenges, whether it’s multi-day hikes or mountain climbs.

I never imagined I’d row across an ocean, but after witnessing Ana’s incredible Atlantic crossing in 2023, I became obsessed with the race.

Now, I’m taking on the Atlantic to push myself beyond anything I’ve ever experienced—and to inspire others to get involved in sport, because I truly believe in its power to build confidence, resilience, and community.”

  • Cal Mayhook

“Growing up, I was never good at sports. I was thin, lanky, and ‘unco’. I discovered the joy of sport when I was having a tough time mentally. Running gave me a sense of control. Every day I pushed a little further, and that exhausted, accomplished feeling after doing something hard—it stuck with me. Since then, I’ve run marathons, trail runs, completed a triathlon, scaled snowy mountains, hiked to Everest base camp, looked inside a volcano, backpacked around the world, and have now started rowing.

I want to inspire people to have a go at sport. You don’t have to be the fastest, strongest, or most talented; you just have to take the first step (or stroke).

I’m still lanky, still ‘unco’, but in 2026, I’ll be rowing across an ocean.”
